How a P1FCU Certificate Account Works
A P1FCU Certificate Account is the Credit Union equivalent of what banks commonly call a certificate of deposit, or CD. You select a term, deposit at least the required opening amount, and earn the stated APY through the certificate’s maturity date. At maturity, you can withdraw, renew, or take another permitted action during the grace period.

Choose a Certificate Term
Shorter Terms
These are best suited for members who expect to need their funds sooner, or prefer an earlier maturity date.
Medium-length Terms
This may fit members with planned expenses that are one to three years away, or members looking to balance rate opportunities with access timing.
Longer Terms
This may be appropriate for money that is not expected to be needed soon, and savings goals with a longer timeline.
The right certificate term depends on your savings timeline, when you might need the funds, and what interest rates are available. Consider when you may need access to the funds before selecting a term.
Certificate Early Withdrawal
A penalty may apply when principal is withdrawn before the Certificate reaches maturity. The current penalty is 90 days’ dividends for Certificate terms of less than one year and 180 days’ dividends for terms of one year or longer. If earned dividends are not sufficient to cover the penalty, part of the penalty may be deducted from principal. Certain exceptions may apply under the full account agreement.
What Happens When Your Certificate Matures?
Your certificate's maturity date appears on your Certificate of Deposit or Renewal Notice. P1FCU Certificates automatically renew unless you take action. After maturity, you have a 10-day grace period during which funds may be withdrawn without an early withdrawal penalty.
What actions you can take during the 10-day grace period:
- Change the Certificate term
- Add funds
- Withdraw a portion of the balance
- Close the Certificate
- Make changes by phone, with a representative online, or in branch
