If you opt out of overdraft services, here's what to expect:
-
Everyday debit card and ATM transactions will be declined if you don’t have enough money in your account at the time of the purchase.
-
You won’t be charged an overdraft fee for those declined transactions.
-
Checks, ACH payments, or automatic bill pay may still be returned unpaid, and you could be charged a returned item fee (unless you have overdraft protection from another linked account).
-
Overdraft Protection: Links your checking account to another account (like savings or a line of credit) to cover shortfalls. It helps you avoid fees by pulling from your own funds.
-
Courtesy Pay: We may cover your transaction even if you don’t have enough money — this is more of a safety net, and a fee may apply.
-
Set up Account Alerts for low balances
-
Use Online or Mobile Banking to check balances regularly
-
Link your Savings Account for automatic overdraft protection
-
Consider opting out of Courtesy Pay for debit card purchases if you’d rather a transaction be declined than incur a fee.
