Neighbors Feeding Neighbors: How Community Partnerships are Feeding Families This Holiday Season

Season of Giving is a very special time of year at P1FCU. This is a time when we can spread joy throughout our communities and partner with community members in giving back to others.

On this week’s episode of Making Sense of Money, we had the opportunity to sit down with Carlo, the owner of Lewiston Grocery Outlet, and Jason, our Community Development Specialist, to discuss how community partnerships are helping to feed families this holiday season.

Neighbors Feeding Neighbors

Neighbors Feeding Neighbors is, at its core, all about helping those in need during the holidays. Community members can nominate people they know to receive a free turkey dinner, including sides and dessert.

Jason encourages everyone to nominate those they believe may be in need this season. It is a great way to give back to others and help those in the community.

People can nominate others by visiting our website, here. Paper forms are also available in branches. Nominations are open now until December 5th.

When the nominations close, the recipients will receive a phone call from one of our staff members to inform them that they will be getting a free turkey dinner for the holidays.

A Partnership that Gives Back

Leading into this Season of Giving, Jason was aware of Grocery Outlet’s heart for serving the community through their social media pages. “I know how much he does for this community. So, we wanted Carlo to be a part of it,” he said.

After hearing about the opportunity to partner together, Carlo’s immediate answer was “yes.”  He shared that “Anytime a business connection reaches out and wants to make an impact together, it just makes sense to us. If we feed one extra kid, I think it’s a success.”

With rising prices, it can be hard for families to afford groceries, but Grocery Outlet’s mission to offer “bargain bliss” helps them save and stretch their budgets. Saving money on groceries also makes it easier for families to provide for their kids and enjoy the holiday season.

Through this partnership, Neighbors Feeding Neighbors will be able to provide a complete turkey dinner with all the sides and fixings. Partnering with Carlo and Grocery Outlet, the campaign will provide all the food needed for the Lewis-Clark Valley family from the store.

Growing the Impact

Grocery Outlet has quietly been giving back to the community, especially during the holiday season. Carlo shared that before teaming up with us, they were already organizing turkey dinners and Christmas toy baskets for local families. So, “partnering on this program just felt like the next natural step.”

Last year, we were able to provide meals for about 80 families. This year, the goal is to serve around 100 families throughout all branch locations in the Northwest. Working with Carlo and his business demonstrates how community partnerships can help small efforts achieve a greater impact.

Quick Takeaways

When asked about one thing they wish they had known about money earlier in life, they encouraged everyone to start saving early. One thing Jason learned is that “money doesn’t grow on trees.” He highly encourages everyone to start saving, regardless of their stage in life.

Get Involved

The Neighbors Feeding Neighbors campaign shows the power of community and what is possible when local businesses come together to serve and care for others. With this partnership, families can enjoy a holiday meal and know that their community and neighbors care for them.

If you know someone who could use a helping hand, nominate them here, or visit a branch today.
